monitor review and troubleshooting?

First, I enjoy a 19" Viewsonic CRT monitor that is roughly 5 yrs old. It sometimes displays so dimly that you can just see it but then it seem it will correct to proper brightness. Not the controls. Does anyone know why this would happen? It's unyielding to believe that a Viewsonic that is no more than 5 yrs outmoded is going bad already but perchance so.

Second, I just purchased a Samsung Syncmaster 931BW widescreen LCD monitor and cannot find any reviews on it. Can someone direct me to a place for reviews? I can find them on lately about any other Samsung product but this one.

TIA

Steve

Answer:

The CRT itself is a big vaccum tube. Like adjectives vaccum tubes it requires a certain amount of voltage and heat. The voltage is controlled by the flyback transformer and is partially responsible for the brigthness as resourcefully.

It is possible that the flyback transformer is faulty.
