Yeah, one entry you can try is to make sure is the plug going from your monitor to the video card is safe and sound plugged in and screwed surrounded by tightly with the two screw at the sides. Sometimes a loose plug connection can wreak some pins to not fully contact the holes in the videocard. Also, judge from the age of your monitor, it's probably on it's last legs. It depends on how commonly you use your computer (how long it's on each day).
Time to take a new monitor, and they're pretty cheap nowadays.
